Is Reliance broadband shaping torrent traffic?

Reliance is a well known ISP in India and is also one of the few ISP’s which offers FUP free plans to it’s customers. But still they cannot become as popular as BSNL and Airtel. Well the reason for this that they are intentionally shaping the web traffic using hardware equipment’s located at their back end. There are many reports from various Reliance users throughout the country on public forums that they are not getting the promised speeds while downloading content form torrents.

Reliance also produce films and whenever they release their movie, they are known to block all the file sharing websites and forces other ISP’s also to block the file sharing websites by issuing them the court order! This definitely causes a lot of trouble for legitimate users as they cannot share important files with their colleagues or family.

As Reliance provides FUP free plan, their networked is abused to a much greater extent which spoils of other legitimate users and gamers. Reliance is definitely not good for gamers as they are know to have huge problems with their routing to Indian and international servers.

Just recently Reliance user are experiencing lot of problems while opening twitter on their computers. Though this was resolved after few weeks. So i will suggest you to think twice before going with Reliance.

  1. It is very bad that Reliance is banning these sites. I am not sure if it is temporary or permanent. But I am sure that piracy won’t just stop by simply blocking torrent and file sharing sites. There are many other ways to spread the piracy.

Also, it is much humiliating when other countries can download the pirated copies of our movies while we are restricted by our ISP’s to do the same. Do they want to save their bandwidth?? Is stopping those sites increasing the collection of movies??

I just switched from Tata Indicom to Reliance since the latter is cheaper. But it has turned out to be a huge mistake. Blocking torrent sites, general surfing problems, gaming issues and the ridiculous amout of time it takes to get connected to a customercare operator not to mention their inefficiency, Reliance has it all. I would sincerely suggest anyone thinking about getting a Reliance connection to reconsider.
